HM2 and FFL2

So just a little update on how HM2 and FFL2 are going.

Harvest Moon 2

So, I played through the first two seasons with Sara (and a few days of Fall), and am in the Winter with Pete. I got the treasure map with both characters and combined them with Game Link, and now I have the Miracle Glove in both games.

Don't know if I'll "need" this screenshot for my 100% completion proof, but I did finish Chocola's mushroom hunt and unlocked Mushroom Rice in the shop, though it only lasts for 10 days. Also, you don't need to befriend Chocola to trigger this event; it just happens in the fall regardless of your friendship with her. I was able to trigger it at the same time with both Pete and Sara even though I only talked to Chocola like 3 times total with Sara, and talked to her every day with Pete.

I'm still not sure if Chocola's friendship actually starts "counting" before she takes over the shop or not. She might actually start at 0FP at the time of taking over the shop, not counting any FP at all until then...? We shall see when I finally get there. I'm not talking to her at all with Sara, and talking to her every day with Pete.

The best possible score you can get in the mole-whacking minigame is 99. Then you get a congratulations message that says you scored 100. Maybe it means 100%...???

You can get a scene with Daisy where you bathe together in the hot springs. No marriage, but at least a bath scene...?! Sadly her shop is closed for the day when you get this scene, and I wanted to buy grass seeds that day... hahaha.

Also in the late fall, I got a scene with Mary where we made a time capsule. You get to write a note from a list of options -- I chose "I love Mary!!" for mine. Even though I love Daisy. Well, I love both!!

She said we should go dig it up in 3 years. I forgot to take note of the date in case I need to do something to trigger it in Year 4 though D:

You can actually fish in the pond when it's frozen over lol.

Anyway, that's about all my interesting little notes. Here's how the games are going:

In Sara file, I have 4 chickens and 1 cow. I'm not going to go for any more animals than that -- I want to get the 'normal' ending so I'm going to go mid on ALL the requirements, even though I'm pretty sure you get the normal ending even if you miss just ONE of the 'good' ending requirements. That's about all there is to note about her game.

I did trade all four chickens with Pete. There's a 50% chance upon trading a chicken for each player that their traded chicken will turn into a Golden Hen. Pete got THREE Golden Hens from the four trades. Sara got zero. When I went and combined the treasure maps, I tried trading the 4th chicken again to see if I could get a gold for either. Neither character got a Golden Hen that time. I could just keep doing it until I got Golden Hen for all four on each character but... nah.

In Pete file, I've reached winter and am a couple days in. I have the first house upgrade, the sheep pen, and the bridge built. I actually got the sheep pen first so I could start working on sheep right away -- I want to have all three of my additional animals from each pen born on the farm, so I need to get to work right away (having an animal born on the farm increases Happiness, and we need high Happiness to get the best ending). After that I built the bridge. I thought about getting the hothouse next, since the house upgrade is purely cosmetic (well, you also need both house upgrades for the best ending, but other than that it's not functional in any way), but I had enough for the house upgrade in addition to the 20,000 G I needed to buy 40 bags of napa seeds, so I went ahead and got it.

And yeah, I planted 40 plots of napa. Each plot is 6 squares of seeds (using line formations because they're the easiest to do with the Super Hoe... though I guess C formation would be plausible if you put them back-to-back... never thought of that. Maybe will try that in the spring??? That's an extra 1 crop per bag... ) ...

Anyway, I expect to make 136,000G in profits from napa alone. That's not including any fishing revenue, which I can make about 1500G a day fishing until 3PM after finishing the morning chores and town run, and then my 1550G egg income each day from my full coop of chickens, three of which are Golden Hens. The hothouse costs 50,000G and I'll need 24,000G for seeds in the Spring... so that's a surplus of over 60,000G. I will need to spend 4,500G on a Cow M. Potion at some point near the end of winter, too, but with all that money, that's not a big loss.

After that I can expect profits of 24,000G in the spring (yeah, it's kind of a crappy season for crops), another 136,000G in the summer (well, less because storms will destroy some of the crops), and 59,200G in the fall. Then another 136,000G next winter, too. So I should easily be able to complete the final house upgrade (100,000G and 900 lumber) at the end of summer year 2, and then I'll have all the building upgrades. After that, I'll have very little expenses (just crop seeds every season, and a few M. Potions to finish off my animal collection).

I don't think I'm going to go too hard on the herbs and flowers unless they seem particularly profitable. I haven't really looked into them yet.

My biggest worry for getting the good ending is shipping 10,000 items. I haven't really tried to calculate it yet.

Let's see, if I ship 240 crops in a single harvest... that's 1,200 crops in spring, ~1,200 crops in summer, 1,680 crops in fall, and 1,200 crops in winter. That's ~5,280 crops a year (it's not exact because storms destroy crops in summer). So over the course of 2 years, I should make more than 10,000 shipments on crops alone. That's not including the 4 eggs and 4 milks a day, 3 foraged items from the mountain a day, 4 sheep wools a week, and however many fish I catch on non-harvest days, and everything I shipped in the first year as well. OK, 10,000 items should not be a problem.

Final Fantasy Legend II

Not as much to report here, as I've just done a bit of grinding around the first town for Project Fate.

Fate is now at maximum efficiency -- he's doing 230+ damage with the Rapier (for comparison, Meta and Snez do 20-30 damage with Rapiers, Snez and Clak's magic attacks deal 40 or so damage, and Fate's Pistol was doing around 70-120 damage). He also has over 200 HP and takes 0 damage from every possible attack thrown at him with his "massive" 18 DEF. (Everyone else has less than 10 DEF, even fully decked out with armor).

Fun little experiment. The power creep will render this obsolete soon enough, though. But I've learned a bit about how to build a good robot, I think. Focus on HP and AGL, with a decent bit of DEF. Later on, I'll need more DEF, I think, so we'll probably have to sacrifice AGL and move back to using guns, having Fate be more of a tank with some damage utility rather than the master-of-everything he is now.

Outfitting Fate

So in hype for SaGa Emerald Beyond, I decided to start up a SaGa game. I'm still playing Harvest Moon 2 in the evenings; now Final Fantasy Legend II is my afternoon naptime game.

But before I move on in FFL2, I want to do a little calculation (even though this will literally become obsolete in like 15 minutes after moving on... but it's FUN so just let me OK?!)

Basically what I want to do is see how 'optimal' I can outfit Fate (my robot) at the first town.

Here's the options we have and the stat changes they give:

ItemHP+StatCost
Bronze Gauntlets9DEF+225
Bronze Helm9DEF+250
Bronze Shield9DEF+250
Gold Gauntlets27DEF+103400
Hammer9STR+250
Bow9AGI+250
Punch9AGI+250
Rapier18AGI+4400
Long Sword18STR+4400
Whip18AGI+4400
Psi Dagger27-1400
Kick27AGI+61400

Normally I go for a STR build because it just "feels right" (robit hit hard!!) but TBH there's only two STR-raising items and they're not that good. Plus, you still have to worry about accuracy, which is determined by AGL. The Rapier, however, has damage that is also determined by AGL, and then your initiative is determined by AGL... so overall AGL is a much more useful stat. We only get 7 item slots to work with (the 8th is always occupied by OPa/Po) so trying to build a STR build when we'd still need AGL actually seems counterproductive.

We basically have three options if we're not going for STR -- A pure tank build with a shield (sadly we have to go for the Bronze shield for now), an AGI build revolving around the Rapier, or a mixed build.

With Kick adding 27 to Max HP, we still can build a pretty beefy AGL build, so it's tempting to go for that, but without DEF, Fate will still lose a lot of HP quickly so having a ton is not TERRIBLY useful. We also don't have Meta beefed up enough to tank yet, so we're more in need of a tank than a decent-HP attacker. Plus with Snez and Clak's magic attacks, we don't terribly need a lot more damage output right now.

Also, Fate comes equipped with a Pistol which gives 27 HP and 6 STR. Guns do fixed damage, and for this early in the game, the Pistol is actually one of our stronger weapons, and would probably even outclass the Rapier even if we went with 6 Kicks and a Rapier (er, maybe. 6 Kicks is a LOT of AGL for this part of the game).

So it seems for the best to build a tank build, beefing up DEF and HP, while keeping the Pistol for damage. The Bronze Shield allows us to completely negate incoming damage possibly (though it also uses our action for the turn), so it's going to be useful even with its poor stat upgrades.

The next problem is cost -- if we're wanting to go with the Pistol, Bronze Shield, and 5 Gold Gauntlets, we're going to have to cough up some SERIOUS cash. I don't really mind grinding, but it will take a LOT to get enough for the Gold Gauntlets -- their price is there to make them appealing to maybe buy ONE or wait until you revisit later in the game. Five is... lol.

Then there's the point that we might still want some AGL to get our Pistol attacks in early. Now, Robots start with the following stat spread:

0 STR
6 DEF
5 AGI
0 MANA

AFAIK there's no way to raise a Robot's MANA so we're just going to ignore that stat (even MANA-based weapons like the Psi Dagger do nothing for their stat boost).

Now, we're at the beginning of the game, and even with armor on, our Meta's defense is a whopping three, and he's surviving well enough (can take 2-3 hits before KO). So a defense of 16+ (one Gold Gauntlets) should be enough to tank, especially with big HP. So we're going to boost HP with Kicks, which will also boost AGL as a nice bonus. Kick is also kind of expensive, but not nearly as bad as Gold Gauntlets. Then we'll get the Bronze Shield, so our loadout will look like this:

Pistol
Bronze Shield
Kick
Kick
Kick
Kick
Gold Gauntlets
OPa/Po

I did a little big of grinding last night to try to get some stat boosts (the game uses a random-stat-up system like sagafro and minsaga) and got a few HP Ups for Meta and MANA Ups for Snez. (Clak's stats are determined by form, and Fate's are determined by equipment). I'm going to be buying Rapiers for Meta and Snez to try to increase their AGL for now, as well.

With the little bit (er, lotta bit really) of grinding I did when I booted the game up last night, I got 3756 GP, so enough to go ahead and grab one of the Gold Gauntlets. Since Meta still has a Long Sword and Snez has access to magic, we don't need to buy the Rapiers right away. So I think I'll grab the Bronze Shield and Gold Gauntlets, then grind out some more money while getting Meta's HP and STR up and Snez's MANA up, then buy the Rapiers. Then while trying to raise AGL I'll farm for the rest of the money to buy the four Kicks.

I'll also equip Fate with the two Hammers we found along the way for a little bit of a boost to HP while we wait to replace them with Kicks.

This puts Fate at these stats before the grind starts:

132 HP
10 STR
18 DEF
AGL 5
MANA 0

And now we have our tank out front and we're good to go! Only 94 GP left until we can buy our first Rapier.

And an afterthought I just had -- with all the Kicks we'll have pretty high AGL, so it might actually be better to use the Rapier instead of the Pistol at that point, so maybe after getting all the Kicks, I'll grind out enough for another Rapier and test this theory.

Things

I am still chugging along with SF2', now on Sagat with Balrog. I'm going to be very glad to be done with Balrog's playthrough lol. Surprisingly, though, Vega was pretty easy to beat with him. Which is weird because he's been difficult with just about everyone, and Balrog has been particularly difficult to defeat opponents with lol.

I need to get back to playing SaGa 2, where I got stuck on a late-game battle and need to go back and grind up some stats and grab some items. I'm not really looking forward to that; I almost even want to just restart the entire game, even though that would be really impractical. But yeah I haven't been pulling out the Switch ever since I got stuck.

The other day I downloaded the Sega collection thingy that I have on Steam, and played a little bit of Sonic the Hedgehog. I was able to get to Marble Zone (which is the 2nd zone, so I beat a whopping 1 boss XD) which had really cool music, but I wasn't able to clear it. And in this game, you run out of lives, and you're just back to the beginning of the game. No continues or anything heh. So I gotta start over next time. But I don't know if I actually want to get into playing it seriously, I was more just wanting to play around with some stuff when I didn't feel like doing other things. But I kinda feel like playing Shining Force, because my friend has been streaming it and there's so many mustaches in that game hahaha.

Watching Raw, I'm finally past Summerslam in 1993. I'm past where Ted got injured, so now Irwin is on his own. Which means Irwin isn't going to be there much longer. But I got the Smoking Gunns to look forward to, so that's good, ahahaha.

ETA: OK, for some reason I thought that after DiBiase's injury that IRS stopped wrestling within a couple months, but apparently he didn't leave the WWF again until 1995. So I got plenty of time with him left :D And it's not in Money Inc. anymore which honestly I'm happy about hahaha.

Collection of SaGa changes

Apparently there were several... localization changes made to the Final Fantasy Legend games in the Collection of SaGa on the Switch.

A lot of it is really... random. Now I'm not the kind of person to be mad over localization being "censorship," and I'm not upset about the changes in CoS. It's just... super strange.

Like there's a part of the game where someone says the stairs are colored differently (in the original)... they changed it to "pigmented differently" like???????? I can vaguely assume why the word "colored" was considered "bad," but that... makes no sense. Like... wow.

It doesn't take away from the game, and doesn't bother me that it was changed, it's just... why LOL

Other stuff makes sense, like "Red Bull" being renamed to "Red Horn" to avoid any kind of stupid copyright thing, despite how dumb the need for that is, but that's another story.

They didn't un-censor anything either. Opium is still "Banana," and God is still "Creator." But what's funny is that the people saying they don't want to support the game because of the changes are saying so because they want the original game experience to be preserved... but those same people are supportive of uncensoring even though it would change that original game experience lol.

In short, people are ridiculous for various reasons lol.

Personally I'm not buying it because it's Switch exclusive and I have no desire to play it on my Switch. If they made a mobile or Steam port of it, though, I'd pick it up right away most likely. But it's also Saga so I might get weak and buy it anyway just to support the series lol.

It seems like lj's new TOS broke DW because too many people were rushing here at once or something hahaha.

I'm almost caught back up to where I realized I wasn't taking any screencaps at all in Laura's scenario lol.

I haven't played with Urpina in a couple of days, but I missed out on a bunch of the characters I was planning on having in my final team. I think I may have talked about this already...? So I'm just kinda picking the best from who I do happen to find, and I'm not going to "try" for any characters from here on out. There are just SO many options and so many missable things in this game, which is both good and bad, but I do have a nice team of 9 and am looking for a 'male' mage for the party now, as the only role I don't really have filled. Though I did look through the characters and it seems there's only one even left available, and getting him seems to require some pretty specific choices, so I MIGHT try for him when I get to that turning point, but I'm also not wanting to look at guides much, so...

Also Urpina has like a million endings or something X_X; Leo only had two and it was based solely on your decision just before the end. Urpina's different endings are impacted as early as finishing the little intro chapter of her story it seems.

But I'm really trying not to look at the guide too much lol. I just looked more when I couldn't find the characters in the locations they were supposed to be, and realized I missed out on a lot of stuff.

I might start writing the Laura scenario play diary later today. I have a looootttt to write because I pretty much am going to be done with the entire story except the last couple of adventures lol. I should probably upload the Urpina caps and start on those, too, because it will take forever...

I've been having a hankering to play SaGa 1 or SaGa 2 recently. I want to make play diaries of them eventually, but I don't want to start them right now, so maybe I'll just play through one of them for fun. I've cleared SaGa 1 a few times, but never SaGa 2, though I've gotten pretty far. Or maybe I should play SaGa 3 even though I ... really don't like it that much haha.

I might actually start the TokiMemo play diary this week, too. Especially since I'll probably get my book today. I'm kinda slowing down on the website because I've been feeling burned out and a friend and my therapist recommended I pace myself better and not put too much pressure on myself.

Also, I mentioned that I looked for a job the other day and my therapist was like shocked and seemed hesitant to accept that and was saying more stuff about how I have to do stuff at my own pace.

In one way I still feel kind of... weird/bad/tired about being treated like a "severe" case (IDK if I mentioned this but I was also instructed to take all sharp objects out of my room lololol) but at the same time it's a bit... reassuring/validating that... I'm not just lazy/stupid and I have serious problems that make it difficult for me to find and maintain jobs and complete tasks and maintain interpersonal relationships and stuff.

Oh, Joe was in town this week and we played Catan yesterday and it was fun but a little awkward, and I guess he and his wife got a divorce, but I didn't know, and I asked them if they were planning on having any kids (which I know is an obnoxious question, but we were already talking about kids/pregnancy so it was not like super random?) and then he was like "oh about that" and I felt terrible, but I guess it was a civil parting, they just realized marriage wasn't for them and are still friends and still work/live together? Er, they might not live together anymore, but I think they still work at the same school (idk lmao I don't ask about details on anything so I never know anything).

Anyway, yeah, that was weird, and we talked about Star Trek which is good and now I feel like watching Trek but I don't because I hate watching things and I'm playing like three SaGa games right now and feeling like starting another for fun and starting Tokimemo and like... lol. And I feel like drawing recently, too -- I want to be able to make a coloring book for dens for his birthday, which is over two months away, but making an entire book's worth of drawings could easily take two months or more, so I should get started on it. Probably I should dedicate at least one day a week to it, and I don't want to do it when he's around because I want the contents to be a surprise (though I could easily hide it from him when he's around anyway since it's not like he looks at my computer screen that much and his eyesight is very poor so he hardly can see anything on it anyway, and I can just zoom or minimize when he's near so he can't see what it is... actually I might be more motivated to work on it around him, so... maybe I'll start doing that...)

All the SCARLET GRACE hype and the fact that I've been talking about UNSaga a little bit both on Tumblr and GameFAQs, I kind of want to drop Innocent Life (I can't find an answer about the completion thing so I am starting to think I'll have to restart if I want to 100% it anyway) and Setsuna (this was pretty much already dropped because I haven't played it in a long time XD) and play through unsaga or minsaga or something? I have kinda been having hankerings to play one of them recently anyway but now I realllllyyyyy wanna play.

I also realized last night while playing Dragon Age that it is not a great game to play when I have too much to think about or too tired because it's too hard to RP Isky. I was just kind of clicking whatever and Isky did some stuff I don't think he would really do XD But Isky is also tired and confused and there's quite a sense of urgency so maybe that's also why he did it XD

I don't really have any of my old save data, so I'd have to start completely new games in each minsaga or unsaga. I mean, I would be starting a new game anyway, but I mean I won't be able to use my clear data. I still have never cleared all characters with clear data in either >_>

In minsaga, you get just a little bonus scene for doing it, but also there are a lot of important bonuses for continued clear data usage, importantly increased jewels rewards XD Building your clout over multiple games is nice, too. With unsaga, there's not really much reward between plays... your market rank is kept between plays, but I kind of like starting with a low market rank? Having mostly expensive items available from the start is kind of useless, since you don't get money any faster, plus there are some cheap items that are nice to collect up early like copse and mullock, since you can use them in blacksmithing. You do get a cute bonus credits roll for clearing all characters with clear data, though.

I think if I did unsaga, since I always start with Laura when I'm going to 'play them all!' again (which I never end up finishing more than like 4 characters XD) I might start with someone I haven't finished like Ruby or Mythe, and do a no-shopping run. This will keep the market rank at minimum XD Plus it's a really fun challenge... I've done a LLG and a SCC, and I don't know if there's anything else really challenging I can do besides no shopping (shopping is a huge deal in this game XD). No shopping and no smithing would be REALLY interesting, but perhaps a bit too boring since you'd probably just end up doing nothing but martial arts. I've considered doing no repairing, which seems significantly more interesting, because you can still use materials and weapons you found to make other things... though you can kind of circumvent this by just creating new weapons twice in a row (not going to explain this lol). Perhaps not being able to use weapons as the base ingredient would be a good rule? That seems to prevent you from repairing AND from cheesing it by using the broken weapon as a material to essentially recreate the original weapon. This would also allow Damascus, though. But I think that would be okay since getting Damascus without shopping is going to be pretty tough. I'd have no save-scumming, too. Actually, now I really wanna do that XD So I might start unsaga soon... XD

Oh, though you still have the whole OP martial arts thing. Maybe also ban martial XD;;; Or at least martial panels. Actually, that sounds good. You can use martial, just not the panels. You'd at least have basic Throw, but it would be way less OP than the high-level throws, and you wouldn't have access to Sinker and stuff, so you'd have to use staffs more...

I really wanted to do an all-characters run where each play was a challenge run (except the last one), but I already started that and now don't have the data anymore X_X;;; And I did SCC and LLG for Laura and Judy respectively, and was pretty far into a no-shopping with Ruby, too... I don't want to redo SCC or LLG because the final bosses were pretty much just replaying 100s of times until I scraped by the RNG. It's not something you can just do to win with a bad setup (if your characters are bad you cannot win) but both of those runs put me in a situation where I pretty much had to get the RNG planets to align in order to win.

Minsaga I have no plans for challenge runs as of yet; it's fun enough for now just playing regularly. Maybe because the only character I've ever cleared is Albert (albeit like 4 times or something now because I always feel like I want to start the whole clear-all-characters from the beginning every time I play, and I always feel like I have to start with Albert lolol)

Speaking of SaGa and challenge runs, even though it's not SaGa, I really want to do another run through LegLeg limited to using only Staff, Martial, and Charms... I actually started one but I had just finished two runs and got kinda burned out.

Or maybe I should play The Last Remnant XD But I think I really feel like playing unsaga? I also thought of playing SaGa 2 but honestly as much as I love that game in theory, I just can't get through it? It's way too tedious. I used to think I liked it better than SaGa 1 but I can play SaGa 1 multiple times through but I've never finished SaGa 2 even once... It's not as bad as SG3 though XD
