Collection of SaGa changes

Apparently there were several... localization changes made to the Final Fantasy Legend games in the Collection of SaGa on the Switch.

A lot of it is really... random. Now I'm not the kind of person to be mad over localization being "censorship," and I'm not upset about the changes in CoS. It's just... super strange.

Like there's a part of the game where someone says the stairs are colored differently (in the original)... they changed it to "pigmented differently" like???????? I can vaguely assume why the word "colored" was considered "bad," but that... makes no sense. Like... wow.

It doesn't take away from the game, and doesn't bother me that it was changed, it's just... why LOL

Other stuff makes sense, like "Red Bull" being renamed to "Red Horn" to avoid any kind of stupid copyright thing, despite how dumb the need for that is, but that's another story.

They didn't un-censor anything either. Opium is still "Banana," and God is still "Creator." But what's funny is that the people saying they don't want to support the game because of the changes are saying so because they want the original game experience to be preserved... but those same people are supportive of uncensoring even though it would change that original game experience lol.

In short, people are ridiculous for various reasons lol.

Personally I'm not buying it because it's Switch exclusive and I have no desire to play it on my Switch. If they made a mobile or Steam port of it, though, I'd pick it up right away most likely. But it's also Saga so I might get weak and buy it anyway just to support the series lol.

It seems like lj's new TOS broke DW because too many people were rushing here at once or something hahaha.

I'm almost caught back up to where I realized I wasn't taking any screencaps at all in Laura's scenario lol.

I haven't played with Urpina in a couple of days, but I missed out on a bunch of the characters I was planning on having in my final team. I think I may have talked about this already...? So I'm just kinda picking the best from who I do happen to find, and I'm not going to "try" for any characters from here on out. There are just SO many options and so many missable things in this game, which is both good and bad, but I do have a nice team of 9 and am looking for a 'male' mage for the party now, as the only role I don't really have filled. Though I did look through the characters and it seems there's only one even left available, and getting him seems to require some pretty specific choices, so I MIGHT try for him when I get to that turning point, but I'm also not wanting to look at guides much, so...

Also Urpina has like a million endings or something X_X; Leo only had two and it was based solely on your decision just before the end. Urpina's different endings are impacted as early as finishing the little intro chapter of her story it seems.

But I'm really trying not to look at the guide too much lol. I just looked more when I couldn't find the characters in the locations they were supposed to be, and realized I missed out on a lot of stuff.

I might start writing the Laura scenario play diary later today. I have a looootttt to write because I pretty much am going to be done with the entire story except the last couple of adventures lol. I should probably upload the Urpina caps and start on those, too, because it will take forever...

I've been having a hankering to play SaGa 1 or SaGa 2 recently. I want to make play diaries of them eventually, but I don't want to start them right now, so maybe I'll just play through one of them for fun. I've cleared SaGa 1 a few times, but never SaGa 2, though I've gotten pretty far. Or maybe I should play SaGa 3 even though I ... really don't like it that much haha.

I might actually start the TokiMemo play diary this week, too. Especially since I'll probably get my book today. I'm kinda slowing down on the website because I've been feeling burned out and a friend and my therapist recommended I pace myself better and not put too much pressure on myself.

Also, I mentioned that I looked for a job the other day and my therapist was like shocked and seemed hesitant to accept that and was saying more stuff about how I have to do stuff at my own pace.

In one way I still feel kind of... weird/bad/tired about being treated like a "severe" case (IDK if I mentioned this but I was also instructed to take all sharp objects out of my room lololol) but at the same time it's a bit... reassuring/validating that... I'm not just lazy/stupid and I have serious problems that make it difficult for me to find and maintain jobs and complete tasks and maintain interpersonal relationships and stuff.

Oh, Joe was in town this week and we played Catan yesterday and it was fun but a little awkward, and I guess he and his wife got a divorce, but I didn't know, and I asked them if they were planning on having any kids (which I know is an obnoxious question, but we were already talking about kids/pregnancy so it was not like super random?) and then he was like "oh about that" and I felt terrible, but I guess it was a civil parting, they just realized marriage wasn't for them and are still friends and still work/live together? Er, they might not live together anymore, but I think they still work at the same school (idk lmao I don't ask about details on anything so I never know anything).

Anyway, yeah, that was weird, and we talked about Star Trek which is good and now I feel like watching Trek but I don't because I hate watching things and I'm playing like three SaGa games right now and feeling like starting another for fun and starting Tokimemo and like... lol. And I feel like drawing recently, too -- I want to be able to make a coloring book for dens for his birthday, which is over two months away, but making an entire book's worth of drawings could easily take two months or more, so I should get started on it. Probably I should dedicate at least one day a week to it, and I don't want to do it when he's around because I want the contents to be a surprise (though I could easily hide it from him when he's around anyway since it's not like he looks at my computer screen that much and his eyesight is very poor so he hardly can see anything on it anyway, and I can just zoom or minimize when he's near so he can't see what it is... actually I might be more motivated to work on it around him, so... maybe I'll start doing that...)

All the SCARLET GRACE hype and the fact that I've been talking about UNSaga a little bit both on Tumblr and GameFAQs, I kind of want to drop Innocent Life (I can't find an answer about the completion thing so I am starting to think I'll have to restart if I want to 100% it anyway) and Setsuna (this was pretty much already dropped because I haven't played it in a long time XD) and play through unsaga or minsaga or something? I have kinda been having hankerings to play one of them recently anyway but now I realllllyyyyy wanna play.

I also realized last night while playing Dragon Age that it is not a great game to play when I have too much to think about or too tired because it's too hard to RP Isky. I was just kind of clicking whatever and Isky did some stuff I don't think he would really do XD But Isky is also tired and confused and there's quite a sense of urgency so maybe that's also why he did it XD

I don't really have any of my old save data, so I'd have to start completely new games in each minsaga or unsaga. I mean, I would be starting a new game anyway, but I mean I won't be able to use my clear data. I still have never cleared all characters with clear data in either >_>

In minsaga, you get just a little bonus scene for doing it, but also there are a lot of important bonuses for continued clear data usage, importantly increased jewels rewards XD Building your clout over multiple games is nice, too. With unsaga, there's not really much reward between plays... your market rank is kept between plays, but I kind of like starting with a low market rank? Having mostly expensive items available from the start is kind of useless, since you don't get money any faster, plus there are some cheap items that are nice to collect up early like copse and mullock, since you can use them in blacksmithing. You do get a cute bonus credits roll for clearing all characters with clear data, though.

I think if I did unsaga, since I always start with Laura when I'm going to 'play them all!' again (which I never end up finishing more than like 4 characters XD) I might start with someone I haven't finished like Ruby or Mythe, and do a no-shopping run. This will keep the market rank at minimum XD Plus it's a really fun challenge... I've done a LLG and a SCC, and I don't know if there's anything else really challenging I can do besides no shopping (shopping is a huge deal in this game XD). No shopping and no smithing would be REALLY interesting, but perhaps a bit too boring since you'd probably just end up doing nothing but martial arts. I've considered doing no repairing, which seems significantly more interesting, because you can still use materials and weapons you found to make other things... though you can kind of circumvent this by just creating new weapons twice in a row (not going to explain this lol). Perhaps not being able to use weapons as the base ingredient would be a good rule? That seems to prevent you from repairing AND from cheesing it by using the broken weapon as a material to essentially recreate the original weapon. This would also allow Damascus, though. But I think that would be okay since getting Damascus without shopping is going to be pretty tough. I'd have no save-scumming, too. Actually, now I really wanna do that XD So I might start unsaga soon... XD

Oh, though you still have the whole OP martial arts thing. Maybe also ban martial XD;;; Or at least martial panels. Actually, that sounds good. You can use martial, just not the panels. You'd at least have basic Throw, but it would be way less OP than the high-level throws, and you wouldn't have access to Sinker and stuff, so you'd have to use staffs more...

I really wanted to do an all-characters run where each play was a challenge run (except the last one), but I already started that and now don't have the data anymore X_X;;; And I did SCC and LLG for Laura and Judy respectively, and was pretty far into a no-shopping with Ruby, too... I don't want to redo SCC or LLG because the final bosses were pretty much just replaying 100s of times until I scraped by the RNG. It's not something you can just do to win with a bad setup (if your characters are bad you cannot win) but both of those runs put me in a situation where I pretty much had to get the RNG planets to align in order to win.

Minsaga I have no plans for challenge runs as of yet; it's fun enough for now just playing regularly. Maybe because the only character I've ever cleared is Albert (albeit like 4 times or something now because I always feel like I want to start the whole clear-all-characters from the beginning every time I play, and I always feel like I have to start with Albert lolol)

Speaking of SaGa and challenge runs, even though it's not SaGa, I really want to do another run through LegLeg limited to using only Staff, Martial, and Charms... I actually started one but I had just finished two runs and got kinda burned out.

Or maybe I should play The Last Remnant XD But I think I really feel like playing unsaga? I also thought of playing SaGa 2 but honestly as much as I love that game in theory, I just can't get through it? It's way too tedious. I used to think I liked it better than SaGa 1 but I can play SaGa 1 multiple times through but I've never finished SaGa 2 even once... It's not as bad as SG3 though XD

Stuff

@Ant, Subj userpics: "Currently uploaded: 47 out of 47."

How many entries have I titled "Stuff" ?? LOL.

So some things.

1. I cleared CATHERINE for the first time last night. It gets... really... weird at the end. Also, I wish the dialogue in that game was more natural. Like... it can be pretty bad. Like people will say nothing back and forth with lots of pauses in it and it is like... frustrating to listen to. And people don't react in natural ways to things lol. Also that game is HARD. I thought it was a challenge playing on easy mode... Anyway, I got the "normal lovers" ending. Apparently there are EIGHT endings X_X

2. My PSN account is dead. Apparently there was some charge dispute and I owe around $20 on it, but it seems like the only way to reverse this is to settle it with the "bank" even though the charge was to a prepaid card thingy from forever ago that I don't even know where to begin figuring out what company it was and how to contact them... so I may permanently be banned (which also means I lost everything I bought on the PSN which is like $100s of stuff...)

3. I have a few posts written up and ready for my gaming/thinking blog. I have an intro post and a FF9-centered post written and ready to publish, and another post that's still being edited. I just have to decide when I want to launch. Because I don't have a laptop anymore, I have to plan the posts around visits to Dennis lmao. I want to offer new content regularly, but my schedule is anything but regular...

4. I got a bit farther in my SaGa game. I defeated Genbu and am on my way to fight Seiryu... I got to the underwater cave thing so I think it's not too far...? I don't remember, really... Anyway, here is my updated party:

CLAYRE
Human Female
206 / 4 / 24 / 25/ 0
Dillinger (17)
submachine gun (15)
whip (18)
high potion (3)
bronze shield (50)
mythril helmet
mythril mail
gold gloves

DENNIS
Human Male
205 / 26 / 12 / 12 / 0
katana (50)
battleaxe (47)
punch (52)
high potion (3)
potion (2)
bronze helmet
gold mail
bronze gloves

NANCY
Monster (Redbone)
103 / 12 / 6 / 8 / 17
bone (25)
stinger (25)
paralysis/weapon resist
fire weakness

THAAO
Esper Girl
65 / 22 / 12 / 32 / 47
Psychobarrier (5)
Akusyuu (9)
Telepathy (25)
Reiki (10)
Dillinger (18)
high potion (3)
gold helmet
bronze mail

Note: "Dillinger" is a gun type; I'm guessing it's named after John Dillinger (historical machine gun bank robber guy). Despite that, it is not a machine gun... it seems to be more of a pistol. It's pretty powerful, and definitely beats out the bow and whip, even though it costs about the same as a bow.

As you can see, a lot of changes... Clayre is now the party leader (she was the starting character, btw), Thaao is now in the very back. Thaao's parameters have gone WAY up, now the strongest character if you're excluding HP... and HP is terrible for her LOL.

If I had more space, I would love to give Thaao an SMG... but I feel the Dillinger is a lot more helpful in her case because Reiki is so powerful already and can hit groups... so a weaker thing that hits groups is not nearly as useful as a thing that hits single targets for similar damage and costs like 1/10 of the price... it's easy to stock up on Dillingers as backup weapons but buying SMG is costly.

I feel like everyone is behind because Thaao's parameters are so high. But you seem to grow parameters faster than you make money... and you have to spend your money on more than just training your humans. Plus huamns are much more expensive since you need to fill 8 ability/equipment slots. And they NEED weapons to be powerful. Thaao has ONE weapon and TWO armors, where the humans have like 4 armors and 3 weapons... Not to mention the humans are constantly breaking their weapons whereas espers only use them as backup to magic (which is replenished for free when you sleep).

Nancy is still worthless... also Redbone has the weirdest abilities. I never understood why skeletons have weakness to fire in games... I realize fire is a common undead weakness, but I think a skeleton should be different. I mean, when you burn a body, the skeleton takes much longer to burn than the rest of it... it's more resilient to fire! A rotting flesh like a zombie would of course be weak to fire IMO especially since a zombie would have difficulty putting out its flaming body. But a skeleton...? Especially a red one LOL should not be weak to fire. Also "bone" is always an ability for skeleton creatures in games it seems... but why? What exactly is it? Punching, kicking, throwing a snapped-out rib? The animation is the same as sword... but then again I think whip uses the same animation as sword in this game. Also, why stinger? Even taking a more liberal translation of "needle" makes no sense. Skeletons have neither stingers nor needles...

This game really needs more guns. I love RPGs with guns... I am happy that SaGa series often has guns because it really adds to the character of the games. But guns in RPGs are usually kinda pathetic. Operation Darkness was so fun before you hit the "everyone is a mystical creature" part of the game, because EVERYTHING WAS GUNS and there were so many types and even gun tactics and stuff... Saga Frontier had similar guns to SaGa 1... a few types, but they are only useful for a small portion of the game, then you don't see powerful guns near the end. UNLIMITED:Saga did a good job with guns... since they're not dependent on glimmering/sparking and still powerful even with low Skill parameter, they are perfect for characters who are built as locksmiths, talkers, etc. (more "map" type characters) or healing/buffing mages. They have a use throughout the entire game. Sadly there is only ONE TYPE OF GUN, a kind of... shotgun looking thing, and you can't build them or smith them or alter them or ANYTHING.

But yeah, that's it for now~
