Making my way through Sonic 1
Nov. 26th, 2024 10:12 pmSo I've been playing Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) for the last hour+. Taking it slow, writing blog, taking screencaps and uploading them, stuff like that. I'm pretty bad at the game so it took me all this time just to clear three of the Zones.
I'll talk about this in the entry for the game, but I think I've found the "right way" (for me) to enjoy classic Sonic. I love 3D/modern Sonic because it's all about speed and reacting to hazards as you constantly go fast. Classic 2D Sonic is way too fast for that -- there's no chance to react to anything at all. Instead, it's more like a speedrun -- you take your time "routing" at first, THEN you can go fast on subsequent plays. But I'm just slowly exploring the Acts (there's actually quite a lot to explore even in the first one!) and the game is much more enjoyable.
Of course I have some complaints and criticisms, but overall I'm having a lot more fun with the game than I did last time. Inching around slowly in the game is a little annoying, as you can't just hold the walk button or you'll start going way too fast. So you have to kinda tap it off and on lol. But there's a lot of stuff everywhere so you end up getting to jump and grab rings or smash enemies or something pretty often so it doesn't feel tedious.
Also do I need an Eggman icon?!? I think I do!!
