So, I've resumed watching Sailor Moon Crystal on a random whim, and not gonna blog about the whole thing, but I've got 3 episodes left to watch and I do have to say season 3 was a huge step up from the first two seasons. Pretty much everything about it is better. The one thing I don't really like (and this is a problem with the manga source as well) is the pacing with meeting the enemies. They meet a villain, learn their plot, and defeat them all within 5 minutes. And usually defeating them is a pretty easy task with no tension or excitement. But yeah, that was a problem with all of Crystal and the original manga stories as well.

I've also been working on a crops guide for Bokujou Monogatari Live & Love, the newly re-released "lost media" flip-phone game based on the popular franchise. And I've been working on my Harvest Moon Let's Play series on YouTube. Annoyingly, I "recorded" two hours of content but forgot to press record. Luckily I have a backup save so I can do it again, but it's been very demotivating, so I haven't worked on it in a couple days.

As for DS9... I'm already kinda tired of writing the blogs. Unlike Pokemon, I don't have a feeling like "I'll finish this some day" and rather have a feeling like "I don't want to do this anymore," so I might cancel that series and just watch on my own...? But for now I'm taking a break from DS9 completely, so maybe when I come back, I'll be more inclined to blog about it again.

I kinda feel like diving back into Super Sentai again. Which of course means not going with what looks coolest or most fun but starting from the very beginning. I've actually tried watching Gorenger a couple times -- the first time I didn't get far, then the second time I watched in Japanese "raw," and got decently far, but got tired of not understanding every last detail and decided to come back to it with subtitles again some day to pick up the parts that I missed.

Strangely, I actually did watch the second Super Sentai series, JAKQ. JAKQ was really good for the first half, and then they introduced the White Ranger and it became a silly kids' comedy show for the rest of the series. Very disappointing. Though the last two episodes were a really cool finale. It was so serious and often dark in the beginning, and then it just turned into the most juvenile comedy show for the second half? Super strange.

So I'm downloading Gorenger now, as well as Battle Fever J. Sadly when I went to the wikipedia article for Super Sentai to see the order of series, they had these little bullet points about each series with trivia like "Debut of a Pink Ranger" and stuff like that, and of course for Gorenger there was a massive spoiler in the trivia section :) So I'm very disappointed in that, and it's not something I'll forget easily, so whoops.

I also have a few other things downloaded that I'd like to watch, like the original Gundam, Bubblegum Crisis, and Dirty Pair. So I might start binge watching stuff, and maybe finishing something will put me back in the mood for DS9. I realized that I could just copy the episodes to my phone so I could watch them there, instead of having to watch at the PC (I often don't want to sit up and it makes me not want to watch stuff, then I end up sitting up anyway and doing nothing???? Yeah, IDK) though it won't be as easy to screencap.

But yeah, I'm wondering if I do manage to finish Gorenger if I should watch JAKQ again and write more about it here.

It's weird because I feel like when I watch stuff, I want to have something to 'show for it.' Like with games you have your save data, and newer games have like achievements and counted playtime and stuff like that. But with shows, you have nothing to "show" you've watched it or no way to chronicle your experience. That's why I like blogging about it; it gives you something more concrete that comes out of watching, like having a save file. Plus it helps my tiny brainpod keep track of what's going on and think more deeply about the plots.

But yeah I just went on the wikipedia article for JAKQ to see what I remembered and uh, just read this:

[Karen] is a Japanese-American female police detective who was assigned to investigate the routes used to traffic illegal narcotics into Japan. During one of her investigations, she uncovered the fact that Crime controlled a majority of these routes, and decided to assist ISSIS in destroying them. Crime attempted to kill Karen by arranging a fatal car accident. Karen survived the accident but lost her right arm. Her father, a fellow police officer, was killed in the crash. Enraged and seeking revenge, Karen willingly accepted Joker's offer to undergo the bionic process and join J.A.K.Q.

Like, doesn't that sound really dark and serious?? And that's just one character's background/bio. (Karen was my fav character~) But for the show to just devolve into silly puns and gags with a completely different vibe... ugh.

I don't think I'll watch it again, since I don't want to suffer through that second half, but I will probably watch the JAKQ/Gorenger movie after finishing Gorenger.

Anyway, just wanted to ramble while I drank my soda lol. Now to retire to the couch and finish SMCrystal.

So, I watched this a couple days ago on the couch, and I'm just now getting around to writing the entry for it. I'm going to be following along Memory Alpha's entry for it to make sure I remember the order of events.

So, my last few entries, you may have noticed, I'm doing a DS9 watchthrough/blogthrough. I still want to continue Pokemon, but I have to be in the right mood for that, plus I'm watching that in Japanese which requires extra brain effort which I don't always have.

Well, to be honest, following the plots in DS9 requires probably more brain effort than understand the relatively simple Japanese of Pokemon lol.

Anyway, here's the links to all the episodes so far. I'll continue to update as I go:

Hello everyone. Welcome to my DS9 watchthrough *throws confetti*. If you're coming off any of my other watchthroughs/playthroughs, you know I never finish anything (hey, I finished Pokemon Red Revenge!)

Anyway, I want to jump right in, so to put it short: I'm going to be watching Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and blogging about it. I have watched the first 1.5-2 seasons or so of this in the past, but don't even remember much about it other than getting bored of it. So hopefully I stay interested this time...! Everyone promises me it gets better. So I'm looking at y'all with a death glare right now. IT BETTER GET BETTER.

Sadly, I can't easily get screengrabs from Paramount+ streaming, so I'm going to be using the ones over at TrekCore for now, until I can figure something else out. The extensions I've tried don't screencap properly. So I'm stuck with whatever TC gives me for now. Will try more later. I'm gonna be hotlinking the images at first; if it fails, I'll have to download them, resize them, and host them myself which is annoying but hey.

I'm kind of a dummy, and I can barely follow the story of the Pokemon anime, so we're going to be trying to follow the story of a much much more narrative-driven show filled with complicated lore. Yay. Expect to be dumbfounded by my dumbness.

I SURRENDER, GUL JASAD. TAKE ME NOW. )

So, as you all know, I'm SO good at seeing things through to the end. Like my Pokemon watchthrough that lasted a whopping 34 episodes (but hey, I did one somewhat recently!) or my Sonic the Hedgehog playthrough where I didn't even finish the first game.

And I could name countless others. Do I even have a finished project now that I think of it...?

Probably not. But I just got Paramount+ for the sake of watching Star Trek again. So if I'm gonna be doing it, why not make some blog entries?

The problem I'm having though is a little bit of decision paralysis -- which series should I watch? It was a TOS fan music video that inspired me to pull up the series, so I'm thinking of starting there. But all the other series have their own merits as well, as well as some downsides, too. So let's make a pros-and-cons list to help me decide! Oh, and I'm only thinking of the original 5 live-action shows. I've seen all of TAS already and don't feel like watching that right now, and I don't want to start the newer stuff until I've seen the old 5 first.

The Original Series

+ I love this one, and it's the one that got me in the mood to start with.
+ Great characters, and tons of hotties.
+ Speaking of hotties, SCOTTIE
+ Kirk/Spock
+ It's shorter than the others
- I've seen it before
- Sometimes the camp is even too much for me, a camp lover.

The Next Generation

+ Everyone is hot. Like literally everyone. Best Klingons, too. Feelgoody and progressive.
+ The random Klingons-of-the-day are the best in the franchise afaik.
+ Feelgoody wokeness before it was called 'woke.'
- I've seen it multiple times over, so I wouldn't be doing justice to the others
- When it comes to 'hit or miss,' this one 'misses' a lot. I still love it anyway though. (actually that's kinda all trek ngl)

Deep Space Nine

+ This is where I last "left off"
+ A gritty, political story.
- A gritty, political story.
- It's kinda boring, but everyone says it "gets better" (I've watched 2 seasons)
- The lowest sex appeal of the series.

Voyager

+ The sex appeal is back! Along with The Doctor who is HNNNGGHHH
+ Janeway is such a cool captain
+ It's the one I've seen the least, so I'd be mostly seeing new stuff
- Apparently has a lot of plotholes and contradictory stuff
- I don't know a lot about it, and I really like 'comfortable' things I know my way around

Enterprise

+ Hottest captain, and plenty of good hotties in this one, too.
+ "Faith of the Heart" puts you in such a MOOD
+ Of the ones I've seen, I enjoy the ongoing story in this one the most.
+ Fun to see the 'early days' of Starfleet
+ Shorter than the others (though not as short as TOS)
- I'm just really not feeling this one right now, you know?
- I feel like I should watch the others before this??? IDK why though.

Conclusion

Well... thinking it out more, it seems like ENT (not feeling it) and TNG (seen too many times) are out. VOY feels weird since I still haven't finished DS9, even though it's not relevant to finish it AFAIK. So it's between DS9 and TOS, I think. Plethora of cuties, K/S, and that... nostalgia-for-a-thing-I-never-lived feeling... has me leaning toward TOS, but watching something new, getting through more of the series, and the more serious story has me wanting to watch DS9.

Well, at least it narrowed it down to two to make this post :P These were kinda the two I was leaning toward before making the post, for basically the same reasons stated, so in a way I didn't really get anywhere, hahaha.

It's times like this I need to talk to a fellow nerd who can encourage me in a direction. But my trek-or-nerdy friends are either exclusively on facebook (which I deleted) or live across the world and are sleeping now. And my other nerd friends I don't talk to enough to feel comfortable DM'ing out of nowhere like WHICH TREK SHULD I WACH LOL

I used to be able to just post in my discord server but it's so dead these days. Basically ONE person reads it anymore (it used to have an active community X_X I guess it's my fault for letting it die/not streaming enough...?) and he's kinda busy and doesn't like trek, so...

OK, I chatted it out in a stream on twitch. Looks like I'm going with DS9 :)
