So, I finished
Princess Maker 3 again. And I got the Soldier ending... again.
I think this is a fairly low ending. And I was trying so hard, too...! I was hoping to get the Mine Boss ending with how much I had been working at the mines, and I had triggered so many scenes at the mines, too. I figured lots of work at the mines + high stats would make me likely to get the Mine Boss ending...? It was my most worked job (60+ times), while I only went to martial arts training like 30 times... I was desperate to get Stamina up because I thought it would matter. But I think going too many times locked me into a military ending...?
When I asked why my daughter was constantly delinquent on the forums, someone warned me that going to church 15+ times will lock you into a church-related ending. So the same is probably true for martial arts class X_x; I had most of key stats above 600, with a couple maxed at 999. The only things I didn't have so high were like... elegance and charm as I didn't think those would matter to a Mine Boss. But I even bothered to study a bunch to get my Intelligence up to 600+.
But uh, even if I was locked into a military ending, why did I only get Soldier, when I had such good all-around stats...?
Soooo IDK. I'm pretty confident in how to use all the systems now, and I don't think there's much else for me to figure out on my own about how the mechanics work... other than to see the ending requirements. But like PM1 happened, I'm worried that this will just make the game too easy. But at the same time, just blindly doing things and then getting completely random endings isn't exactly fun. It is more fun when I actually have a more concrete goal and know what I'm working toward.
One thing I
do know is that I'm not really looking forward to another blind playthrough. So I guess I'll look some stuff up. If only the game gave you a little more direction itself...
OK so I looked a little up. First off, the wiki for this game is all kinds of crap. Not only is the formatting all messed up, but there are errors everywhere and contradictory information. One of the endings had a "trivia" section that was like "I don't think this is right because I got this ending w/o doing the things listed" 9_9 So who even knows how reliable this is.
Apparently the Soldier is the lowest of the military endings. There's no indication that you need to go to military training though...? Apparently to get the second lowest military ending, you need Elegance of 500+. I never would have guessed. Also, 500 is a lot?! The other stats seem to require like 700+. I guess all that time I spent studying for the Intelligence wasn't helping though.
Yeah, trial-and-erroring my way through these endings would not have been fun. I would have probably gotten Soldier like 10 more times before stumbling upon anything else and even then still not even realized how I did it.
It seems to get various endings you just need tons of high stats, in addition to working at certain things the most. Also, raising your Pride is not bad (I thought it would be kinda like Sin in PM2) rather it is required for a lot of endings. I was actively trying to keep Pride down on my first playthrough.
Mine Boss doesn't even have a page on the wiki X_X; along with a couple other endings. Guess we'll just be guessing how to get those! Maybe I can look up a Japanese guide...
Oof, even the Japanese guides don't seem very reliable. Well, I could only find one, and it was incomplete. I guess that's part of the woes of playing a niche entry in a niche series.
Ah, I found a list of endings and requirements
here. Seeing the stats' names in Japanese make things make a little more sense. (... A little.)
Anyway, some things about PM3 after having 'refreshed' myself with two playthroughs (mostly bad):
- There are a lot of little random events in the form of short little dialogues. This makes things a little more interesting. They also seem to change a little depending on your chosen prior occupation, and there may be unique ones for that as well.
- There is a 'mood' system in the game where you can have your daughter enter certain 'moods.' This is kinda like delinquency from previous games (which is one of the moods in this one) but there are many more. There's a 'worried' mood when you get too poor, an 'arrogant' mood with lots of adverse effects... each one affects what your daughter will/won't do and modifies her stats as she acts, as well.
- No errantry or anything really hurts the game. Especially since it's beneficial to Chat regularly, you're going to be sitting there doing commands one by one and chatting, and it gets VERY repetitive. Moreso than previous games.
- The Switch version is buggy and clunky af. Even on the title screen you have to mash buttons a little bit to get the cursor to appear. Sometimes you have to click on things multiple times before they actually work, too. Once I loaded my game and it locked up on me. And once I started a new game and got an achievement for maxing one of my stats before I even did anything (and the stat was, of course, not maxed). Also sometimes the Chat menu opens again for no reason after you finish chatting (like, it goes back to the main menu, then even sometimes after you move the cursor off of Chat, the Chat menu will open again after a second lol).
- The translation is really bad. There are times money is called "support" and there's a time when Uzu says he's naked?? And like other random dumb stuff. It's like they just machine translated it with a cheap translation engine (not even Google?!) and didn't even bother to check it, even with a non-native speaker.
- The credits roll is in Japanese. Guess they don't care about giving credit to people who can't read it.
- You can switch language on the fly between English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. That's pretty cool.
Anyway, idk how to end this so I guess I'll just post now XD
