[17] An Island of Huge Pokemon?!

I was right, it was the episode where the Pokemon talk and there are subtitles xD This implies that the Pokemon speak human languages, just with their own Pokemon "dialect" ?? And for some reason all Pokemon are able to understand one another, but humans are not able to understand their speech.
I also want to know that Pikachu consistently says "Pikapi" for "Satoshi," even outside of this episode, it seems that he refers to Satoshi as "Pikapi."

BTW I'm going to start using fewer screencaps because I need to save space on my DW image hosting XD If I really keep up with this, I might need to buy a premium account, or start using my own website as an image hosting site (IDEK if that's allowed lol).
Anyway, the episode begins with four groups waking up realizing they're separated: We have the GGG minus a few of Satoshi's Pokemon in one area, Musashi and Kojiro in another area but without their Pokemon, Pikachu and the starter Pokemon in another area, and the Rocket Pokemon in another.
Each group starts looking for each other.
Some interesting things about the way the Pokemon "talk" through the subtitles -- Hitokage's speech is given more polite speech patterns, while Zenigame and Fushigidane talk more rough and masculine. Dogars just chants out single words, and Arbo talks straightforwardly. Pikachu talks in a more 'average' way I guess XD
There's also a cute little pun where Fushigidane response to Zenigame by saying "dane?" and the subtitle is "dane?" (kinda like saying "ikr?") so it's funny that what he says in "Pokemon" language is the same in Japanese :P
While looking, Fushigidane actually suggests that Satoshi abandoned them. You'd think he'd have more faith in Satoshi by now?! I know the Pokemon don't really have very developed personalities, but it just seems kind of out-of-character for Fushigidane to think that way.
Eventually Nyarth's group finds Pikachu's group and all the Pokemon are together. At first Nyarth commands Arbo and Dogars to attack Pikachu and friends, but they refuse, and have a little discussion about how Pokemon don't do bad things naturally, only they do bad things because their owners command them, and Nyarth is not their owner. Then Nyarth is a little shocked because he realizes he wants to do bad things on his own.
It's nice that we get a little insight into the minds of Pokemon in this episode. It makes you realize that Pokemon are sentient, intelligent beings, much more than just animals with powers.
BTW it's really annoying to read Japanese without kanji. It makes it very difficult to read. Thankfully this episode is created with small children in mind so the subtitles that the Pokemon say are often VERY short and simple, so it's not really that bad, but even for little phrases, it's a pain to parse the words without kanji. Because kanji pretty much help you realize where words begin and end, nothavingthemislikereadingEnglishwithoutspaces. It's super annoying.
The Pokemon end up getting along and searching for their owners together, and there's a weird part where they're at an oden stall set up by a Yadon? (or maybe it was Yadoran, idk) and they're talking like they're tired businessmen or something. It's really strange lol. And there's a clip where Fushigidane looks drunk or something???

The island ends up being full of gigantic rare Pokemon, and each group gets into crazy shenanigans being attacked and chased by them. Eventually it culminates in everyone reunited on a random trolley cart, pulling all of the Pokemon along behind them attached by a telephone wire. Yeahhhh, idk. When they fly away after hitting a ramp, they crash through the Thunder's wing and realize the Pokemon are mechanical.
Turns out the Pokemon were attractions on a "Pokemon Land" island for people to view while they rode by in a ferry. A little shot to Sakaki's office shows that he may own Pokemon Land and is frustrated that all his mechanical Pokemon got wrecked.
Though I do wonder, if the mechanical Pokemon were just supposed to be spectacle attractions, why are they attacking people and Pokemon on the island? You'd think it wouldn't be unreasonable for wild Pokemon to inhabit or visit the island... why are the robots programmed to ATTACK innocent passers-by...????? Very strange. I mean they needed to have some kind of danger/excitement/surprise for the episode, but... when you think about it, it's quite silly.
We got to see Sakaki AND got to see into the minds and personalities of Pokemon a little more. Makes me think a little badly of Fushigidane though. First his episode is not the greatest, and now he's written to be dismissive of Satoshi like this??? Why is Fushigidane turning out to be my least favorite of the trio when in the game he was my starter and my favorite?! Hahaha.
Anyway, overall, good episode for the aforementioned reasons. I really liked the insight into what Pokemon talk and think about. Hitokage seems timid and polite. Zenigame seems like a cool guy, but maybe a little immature. Arbo seems simple-minded, but quite mature. Dogars is Dogars. And Nyarth is a complicated little mess lol. Oh and Pikachu is exactly how you'd expect the protag mascot to be, cheerful and helpful and a natural leader.
(Oh also there was a random Yadon that evolved into Yadoran for like, no reason. But I wanted to note that during the Dareda segment, it showed Yadon with a non-Pokemon fish biting its tail. And in the previous episode, when Satoshi looked out the window of the St. Anne, non-Pokemon fish swam by, too, hahaha.)
I want to watch another but I am sleppy :,)
