Yeah it's always the little hearts! They could have put little Pikachus or something! Or even the fist icon that represents fighting Pokemon. Or maybe just some cool color pattern lol. I guess these are easier to animate but it was like one or two frames of animation and idk if the pants even changed. GIVE US BETTER SHORTS, LAZY ANIMATORS!!
Yeah it seems crazy but in a way I guess they wanted to be able to feature lots of different Pokemon instead of just having the same ones every episode (even though we kinda have that already with the starters and Pikachu). Turns out fans actually liked him having a stable team though :P
