Starting over?
Nov. 16th, 2019 11:36 amSo, I decided to continue my playthrough of romasaga3 even though the harem was ruined. At the end of the game, you have to leave one of your characters behind (you can have 6 characters total, but the battle party is only 5 characters, so there's always an 'extra' unless you're doing Commander Mode). So I just dumped the non-harem dude. So I still ended up with a harem party.
But now my problem is that not only am I underpowered, but I didn't fight much during my playthrough so my monster rank is LOW. It will take hours and hours of fighting to get the monster rank up to where I'm going to be actually gaining from battle and able to glimmer new skills.
And I think a big part of my problem is that I didn't save some of my more specific equipment. I definitely need things that make my party immune to gaze attacks and stuff. Equipment is a BIG DEAL in this game, and I kept selling all mine because I'm stupid and wanted money. I thought because I had really strong stuff I wouldn't need the other stuff, but sometimes you need to equip weaker stuff because of its attributes.
So I'm thinking of starting over. Not starting over the harem, but moving on to one of my other ideas. Either non-human or bamf ladies, strongly leaning toward bamf ladies. non-human party uses Sarah as the main and I'm not prepared for that. I saved in a separate slot once I passed the 'point of no return' so I can always go back and try to grind out the monster rank in my Monika game later. So the Harem party isn't completely dead yet. Or I may be inspired to play through again and make sure I can keep Herman this time.
Goals this playthrough:
- Get monster rank up as I go. I'm gonna actually fight everything I come across instead of largely avoiding battles.
- Save equipment for the end. Actually use the storage for anything remotely useful so I can take all the best stuff to the end while keeping inventory space open for new drops and treasures.
- Do as many sidequests as I can before entering the final area, instead of ignoring a few because they're too hard. Why expect to be able to beat the final bosses when I can't even beat sidequest bosses?
So now I gotta plan out my team! I'm not gonna do as strict planning as I did with the harem party. I'm just gonna take notes of glimmer types and plan out what I want to do with Ellen's starting choices. I'm not gonna care about growth rates this time, because even with poor growth rates you can still grow plenty. Herman has 0 growth rates in everything, and he was still leveling better than Trucks and Tiberius who have good growth rates. It's so much RNG.
GLIMMER TYPES:
Nora - Bludgeoner
Muse - Mage
Undine - Mage
Zhi Ling - Archer
Woo, forgot I'm using two mages. This might be a Genbu-focused playthrough. Also everyone I'm trying to recruit comes a bit later in the game, after clearing somewhat difficult sidequests. Except Nora, whom you can get at the very beginning.
As for Ellen, she's normally good at STR-focus things like Axe and Martial. But giving her a shortsword will actually give her the Jack-of-all-Trades glimmer type, which is pretty cool. The only two who can achieve that are she and Sarah, so that's interesting. Plus I can get a pretty good build with her using Mercury and Shortword, with a DEX of 21 and a SPD of 23!! WIL suffers, but even CHA is 25. So I think I'm gonna go with that.
Though I've found in my harem party playthrough that actually there are more dangerous female enemies than male enemies, so having a male sex god is actually more useful than a sultry siren character. Ladies dig the mustaches.
