Yeah, if you Romanize the way it's written in Japanese script it pretty much comes out to "Kimbali" so I guess that might be where they got it. The official Romanization/English-like names are written only in the guidebook so the localization staff probably didn't have access to them. A LOT of names actually changed at least in spelling/feel. Jeanne Maure was just "Jean Moore" in the JP version. Some of the spellings were ugly, like Vaftom was something wild like "Wahfftom" hahaha. Some names were just purposely changed, like Cash->Kurt, Vent->Ventus, Hiloyuki->Hiro. Overall I think the English-version names are a bit more refined so it's nice XD One thing that's interesting is that looking at the Japanese you can gather the intended pronunciation since Japanese script has strict phonetics -- Mythe is actually meant to rhyme with "tithe" or "writhe" rather than sound like the word "myth." I don't know if they ever pronounce his name in the voice acting (I don't think they do) so I will pronounce it that way unless the game tells me otherwise XD
Yeah, I've really been wanting to write some code recently just because I love the feeling of it haha, so I should really get back to writing that weapon calculator thing. I might still have it hosted somewhere or in my dropbox or something. At least, what I was working on. I found a post talking about it (http://marchionessofmustache.tumblr.com/post/139198072827/im-working-on-a-little-web-applet-thing-to), but I can't seem to find the file itself D: Having to re-enter all that raw data will be awful...
YEAH RENADO haha I looked him up and they're not THAT similar but they have a sort of general shape or something XDD
Yeah, the game feels pretty well balanced to me. If you're just playing and fighting as you go, the monsters will be a little tough when they rank up but you'll soon overcome that difficulty, just about in time for the monsters to get tougher again, so it's pretty fair. You'll have easy moments and hard moments, too.
Herb gathering is just a part of life in these kinds of settings XDDD Everyone must do it sometimes XD
You can quicksave during adventures, but it's the end-your-game-now-and-delete-the-data-when-you-load type, so you can't savescum on adventures (which would make the game terribly broken if you could). Actually you can technically, if you copy the quicksave data to a second memory card before loading it every time you want to load it... way too much work for me. You'd have to eject the disk and start the PS2 to manage the data between every reset... just to avoid a trap on a chest or something? But if you were able to do it easily, it would ruin the game. You could also "reroll" your panels this way (I did do this a little in my SCC just because all I was doing was running through the secret adventure hundreds of times over and over waiting for the right panels to drop... I ended up just hacking them in because waiting for the RNG to give me a panel is not a part of the 'challenge' lol)
I don't use savestates when playing on emulator except solely as a way to save progress in case of a crash or just to make normal loading faster (since it's faster to load a savestate just before a boss than go through the memory card route).
