So, I'm going to be starting a new play (and restarting the play diary) for RSG3, for reasons (I had put it on hiatus for other reasons but now want to take it out and start over XD)
Anyway, I'm going to be doing the same theme as before but I can actually get Young Fang at a normal time instead of waiting for the end of the game, so I'm going to do that.
So now I'll have 6 party members to cycle around instead of sticking with just 5, which will change up the available strategy a bit (as well as allow for COMMANDER MODE throughout the game!)
So, this is just a little bit of self-brainstorming (triple good things did happen) of how I want to divide up roles in the party. I'm going to be basing everyone's roles mostly on their growth rates and not their base stats, since ability levels are more important overall.
I've blabbed about this before, but the only REALLY important stats are Agility, Willpoewr, andSex Appeal Charm. Everything else means little compared to ability levels. So those three stats and growth rates. Let's go.
Most people have 0 growth rate in most things so I'll only list things with actual growth.
AGI 19
WIL 21
CHA 21
hp 2
slash 1
pierce 2
missile 1
solar 4
AGI 22
WIL 15
CHA 19

AGi 10
WIL 18
CHA 13 (um excuse me)
hp 3

martial 1
solar 1
AGI 10
WIL 24
CHA 12 (UM EXCUSE ME)
0 in every growth lmao
AGI 14
WIL 20
CHA 14 (Well I guess it's better than Herman and Ward...)
suzaku/seiryu/byakko/genbu 1
solar 2
wow this is bad
AGI 21
WIL 21
CHA 19
hp 3
slash/pierce/blunt/missile 1
martial 3
seiryu 2
byakko 2
So I want to divide magic up either so that I have 3 on one school and 3 on the other, or 2 each on different schools. If I only do two, I'm going Genbu and Seiryu, basically for just access to Nap and two good hit-all arts with Tornado and Thunderclap. Basically we'll be the weather team XD Castform!
If 3 schools... it will be a lot harder to decide. Suzaku is probably the best choice for stuff like Firewall and Self-burning, I guess.
Tibby and Young are the 'natural' mages of the group, so I don't know if I should put them on the same element, or put them on separate ones to make each one like the 'leader' of the two different magic teams. Actually, the latter sounds better. And with that, I think I like the idea of two magic schools over three.
So we'll have Tiberius stick with Genbu since he starts that way, and Young take up Seiryu since he has good growth there.
Herman's huge WIL stat and terrible AGI actually will make him great for using Nap at the end of the turn to ensure enemies are asleep at the beginning of the next turn. Stuff like that. Plus the low AGI is not that great for healing. Actually, the high-AGI characters should probably go Genbu since they'll be the healers.
Trucks is fast, and even though he does have a little growth in Seiryu, he'd probably do better with Genbu.
I went with Seiryu for Mikhail last time to make use of nap, but the combo of Herman (slow) and Young (even faster than Mikhail and just as good WIL) will be enough Nap stuff. So we can use Mikhail's decent speed to help out with healing
So uh, that's:
GENBU - Tiberius, Trucks, Mikhail
SEIRYU - Young, Herman, Ward
Similarly, I want to divide up Solar and Lunar between the six. Mikhail, Robin, and Tib have good growth in Solar so they'll take it up. Last time I purposely put Robin on Lunar to make use of his higher CHA, but Young has good speed and the same CHA, plus we're not 'sacrificing' that good Solar growth since he doesn't have growth in either solar or lunar.
Then, what weapons should everyone use? Young's great AGI+WIL means he should definitely at least have access to a bow for Shadow Sew, but will probably main Martial and Seiryu.
Herman's big WIL means he's going to have a bow as well.
Other than that, the party is pretty bad in most physical growth and utility, it seems... I'll have to also look at everyone's glimmer types to really decide.
OK, yeah, no real surprises there. Well, Young is Type 10 which means he can get some cool martial arts that no one else can get. Herman is the only one with Axe type so he should grab an axe and pass anything he masters over to Ward.
Mikhail we get to choose. We can choose something that no one else has like Bow Type, or start him with a Spear which will change him over to Type 10, which can learn all the Spear waza, and he will be able to learn the one Greatsword art that Ward can't learn even as the only Greatsword Type in the game.
Nobody has Bow Type but Trucks has Foil Type which is better than anything else (besides bow type of course) at Bow in general...
Axe Type is also the only thing we have that can learn the Martial arts that Type 10s can't learn, so Herman will have to try to pick up those extra arts, too.
We also have... no one at all learning Staff arts. But people holding the Staves of Life will definitely be raising their Staff levels... again, Axe is the only type that is that good at learning this stuff, so... are we going to force that on Herman, too?
Mikhail - Greatsword, Sword, Spear, Shield
Tiberius -
Ward - Greatsword, Sword, Staff, Shield
Trucks - Foil, Bow
Herman - Axe, Martial, Staff, Bow
Young - Martial
Well, sounds like a plan... now I have to decide how I'm going to go about it. I also need to figure out exactly how many people I can take down the sanderfall to make sure I pick up Young. I can only have 3 party members at the most, but I don't know if Ci Ling will be forced into the party before or after the Young Fang decision since I don't really know when or how it works. I also don't know if we'll be able to dismiss anyone or if Bai will make someone stay behind. If she makes someone stay behind and Ci doesn't join before Young, we could take as many as four people through the desert. But if Ci joins before and Bai doesn't take anyone, we can only take two people through the desert, which is terrifying.
Anyway, I'm going to be doing the same theme as before but I can actually get Young Fang at a normal time instead of waiting for the end of the game, so I'm going to do that.

Date: 2018-09-06 04:15 am (UTC)Though it will be out in English... eventually :O So you can enjoy it when that happens :D Until then you still got SG1, SG2, SG2, RSG2, SGF, SGF2, USg, Minstrel Song, and possibly even the localization of Scarlet Grace you can catch up on if you want :D *shoves 10 copies of each game under your pillow* :3

Date: 2018-09-06 03:08 pm (UTC)Yeahh I get you. Especially with minsaga there are just so many systems and things going on and no direction given by the game so it is super overwhelming. Actually that's like... almost every game in the series. The GB and SNES games are of course a bit simpler at least xD and Scarlet Grace is actually pretty easy to get a handle on.

Date: 2018-09-07 02:55 pm (UTC)You could always try starting out with another character next time and then if you end up going further and want to go back to Albert you can do that. You could also try Sif, since she and Albert share a little bit of their story, and it might be enough reminder. But there's hardly any real story to the main characters; basically the introduction sequence is different and then the rest of the game is pretty much the same. Albert probably has the best intro, though, as it's longer and more dramatic. Barbara's is best if you're just wanting to play the game as you just walk into a pub and watch a scene and her intro is over.
But yeah I get in this kind of trap with any game that isn't super short. I always want to start over from the beginning and redo everything I did before after not playing for a while. it's why I've never finsihed Persona 4. Even though I know how the story goes up to the furthest point I've gotten, I always end up just starting over which eventually leads to another burnout XD

Date: 2018-09-10 04:59 pm (UTC)I managed to beat Saruin, but it was… taxing, if I recall. Sometimes stuff would just… happen… in battle, but because I didn’t know if it was completely random or something I was triggering, I was just sort of stunned. I don’t even mind a randomness aspect, so long as I know it’s random and have a general idea of what sort of stuff could affect rates of success and the like.
I liked Albert’s opening. The only downside was being unable to recruit Diana, who was baller. I think I had Sif with me in my main party, because she’s awesome. Y’know, a lot of what Romancing SaGa does seems to have inspired Octopath Traveler, which is just one incentive to get a Switch. A more user-friendly system? Yes please!
I have the same issue regarding restarting games. If I stop for an extended time (read—two weeks) then it becomes almost impossible for me to pick a game back up. This has caused a lot of issues for me in the past—I remember I restarted Final Fantasy 5 two or so times because I’d get bored around the pyramid and put the game down and totally forget what was going on when I got back to it. That’s also why it’s been hell getting through Bravely Default, since I refuse to restart at this point.

Date: 2018-09-14 01:08 pm (UTC)And yeah Diana is fantastic. I really wish she would have been the heroine of the scenario instead of Albert in the lead. But I guess then we wouldn't have gotten the whole stuff with Sif. But that could have just been part of Sif's scenario, so... XD But I'm sure you've heard me rant about that before hehe :)
My first time through FF5 I blasted through all at once, but with consecutive playthroughs it's been super hard to finish and I always peter out around or a bit before The Galuf Thing. I at least manage to finish one FJF play every year... I still need to get all the achievements in the Steam version and try out the GBA content.
I keep hearing so many conflicting things about Octopath. Depending on who you ask it's either a fantastic killer app for the switch that honors games of the past or a Saga-eqsue I Am Setsuna :\
