So I watched RR92 last night. Since the last months of 91 I've been REALLY into the early 90s WWF now lololol.

I've added Repo Man to my spreadsheet (uh IDK if I explained this here yet but I'm keeping a spreadsheet of every episode of every show and PPV that I can find and marking what my favs do in them LOLL it also helps as an easy indication of what things I haven't managed to find/see yet) and everyone on the spreadsheet participated so it was a fun PPV~~

Before the Rumble itself, there were three matches -- Roddy Piper won the IC title, LOD retained the tag title (though Hawk shaved his mustache which was super disappointing, though he's even kinda hot without it, but not nearly as much), and there was an exhibition match with The Beverly Brothers facing The Bushwhackers. My Beverlys won, which was lovely, plus getting to see them face anyone other than jobbers was great because we got to see a lot more of them and their 'getting hurt' expressions XD

The 30-man Rumble included everyone else on the spreadsheet. Ted Dibiase drew spot #2 and was eliminated right away by British Bulldog. Whom I have to mention I'm really starting to like a lot.

Most of my lovelies were only in there for like 5 minutes or less, but IRS was in the ring for almost 30 minutes. There was a moment where he tried to help out the Taker and then was immmediately backstabbed... like... what did you expect, Irwin?

And then even though Repo Man only lasted a litle over 6 minutes (which is more than anyone else besides IRS lmao) he did get two eliminations. No one else got any eliminations at all lol.

In the end, Ric Flair survived from Draw #3 to the end, winning because of a little spat between Sid Justice and Hulk Hogan which distracted Sid and allowed Flair to get the eliminiation. Of course, I'm happy to have Flair as the new champ (the World Heavyweight title was relinquished a bit before this after a weird thing with Hogan/Taker so the winner of the RR took the title).

OK I said I was going to do it so here's a list of the hottiest and my other beloved rasslers from watching the entire 1991 year of WWF programming, at least that I could find.

I'm not going to really be putting them in a ranked hotness order because I can't decide so it's just a sex buffet or something. Well, some of them aren't even hot this is just a list of my fav characters and a tiny (...by my standards) blurb about why I like them (which is usually like just 'I LIKE THEM!!!1' with way too many words)...

And yeah that's it lol. I might make another post about the vidya soon??

WWF 1991

OK, I haven't posted here in a long time. I don't want to put this on facebook or tumblr because they get laggy when I type a lot and I might edit this a lot or add pictures or something idk LOL prol not tho bc I just want to ramble.

So I've been watching WWF's 1991 programming (because that was the debut of Irwin R Schyster), or at least watching Superstars and Wrestling Challenge, though I try to find episodes of Prime Time Wrestling when I can (and did find a cute one with IRS) but it's hard to find those. Hopefully WWENetwork will eventually add all the early 90s content to their archives so I can just watch it there, but right now I have to scour the internet for people's old VHS rips.

Either the entire like, 5/6 of 1991 was a drought in the writing/creativity in WWF programming (I haven't seen anything pre-1991) or the last coulpe of months REALLY stepped up to be more like what I'm used to with modern programming. Uh, for more context, I only just got into wrestling like a year ago and have only been watching new stuff and only WWE stuff so I don't know much of other promotions and haven't even seen the supposedly-best eras of WWE yet.

I was going to go into all the stupid little stories of 1991 but basically they were just... really ridiculous, and usually there was only like one at a time and they were drug out so slow that it was nearly impossible to stay invested in them even if you tried.

Near the end of the year, though, there were kind of a lot of little stories and rivalries going on, and they were developed a lot more than previous rivalries in the year (which boiled down to just SCREAMING TRASH TALK).

I guess it really started to pick up a bit before the last couple of months, because in the early summer we had the Macho Man/Miss Elizabeth engagement which led to the whole wedding crasher thing, which set the stage for some even more intense events at the end of the year. We also had Virgil win the Million Dollar Title at SummerSlam which was really awesome and exciting, and the first time I got really hyped up (and even cried) at 90s rasslin.

Actually I was planning on just talking about the 'recent' things (as in, 'recent' relative to where I'm at now, which is December XD) but I actually do want to talk about that because it was really great.

When I first started watching this stuff I thought I was going to only really get into IRS and no one else would really be interesting. I don't know why I was so dumb about it because I get so easily attached to fictional characters of any type, but...

Anyway, Virgil is the only black wrestler in the WWF in 1991 that I can think of, as well as the only wrestler of color whose in-ring persona isn't some kind of weird cultural stereotype. And as I was watching and mostly skipping anything that wasn't IRS-related a few seconds into a match, I noticed he was appearing a lot and I thought it was pretty cool that in 1991 there was a black guy getting as much screen time as any of the white guys and he seemed pretty popular, too.

For a bit of backstory, before this (which I only learned through the context of commentary myself) Virgil had been a 'servant' to the Million Dollar Man, who treated him poorly making him like literally kiss his boots and stuff. But he eventually broke away and started wrestling on his own, and I guess people really loved him.

Million Dollar Man has this title called the Million Dollar Title that he just... made up himself and awarded to himself, so it didn't really carry too much weight... until finally after a lot of wrestling on his own, Virgil challenged MDM for the Million Dollar Title to close that chapter of his life and prove his strength and independence away from DiBiase.

And this culminated as a major event of Wrestlemania 91. By this point I was already rooting for Virgil in general as he was just a cool guy and a fun wrestler to watch, but now he was the center of the first really meaningful story of 90s wrestling I'd seen. Of cousre, there was no doubt that Virgil wasn't going to claim the Million Dollar Title to the delight of fans, but the execution of the match along with Roddy Piper's ridiculously enthusiastic commentary (I'm pretty sure he even was crying at one point himself LOL) brought me to tears and I had so many feels for Virgil and this victory.

That was pretty much the first meaningful rivalry in 91. Before that we did have the weird Undertaker putting Ultimate Warrior in a casket but like... there really wasn't any reasoning behind that and it didn't make a lot of sense to begin with and drug on forever.

The main event of Summerslam 91 and the main rivalry leading up to that point, however, was Hulk Hogan vs Sgt Slaughter which was basically just "USA is better than all other countries and violence PROVES IT" personified with mustaches stuck on. I did appreciate the mustaches, at least. And then the other highlight of that Summerslam was Macho Man and Elizabeth's wedding (yes, a wedding ceremony headlined a wrestling pay-per-view lol) and the tagline for the event was "A Match Made in Heaven and a Match Made in Hell" referring to these two events. But honestly the Million Dollar Title match was WAY bigger than those other two things and definitely was the most exciting fight and most moving story event of the whole night.

After this I was like "Eugggghhh now I have to watch all the stories because they might actually be cool." Well, they kinda weren't for a while. Even more dragged out than the Ultimate-Warrior-in-a-Box story was the story of Undertaker and Jake The Snake crashing the wedding reception of Macho Man and Elizabeth and "traumatizing" Elizabeth by like, holding a snake near her. This went on for pretty much all of the rest of summer and all of autumn.

But near the end of the year, rivalries started to have more to their stories than just "I don't like you now for some reason, LETS YELL AT EACH OTHER A LOT AND THEN FIGHT." IRS and Big Boss Man had a rivalry that actually went along with their characters -- IRS accused Boss Man of being a crooked cop, and Boss Man accused IRS of being a crooked government official. And you know, the best way to solve that is with choreographed fighting in front of an audience. Ric Flair joined the WWF, holding the title of World's Champion from WCW, claiming his title was more prestigious and meaningful than Hulk Hogan's title of WWF Heavyweight Champion. Flair and Hogan have a lot of personality so this became a pretty enjoyable rivalry, especially when the Undertaker got involved having a bit of a side-rivalry with Hogan which ended up with him taking the title from him with Ric Flair cheating to help him at Survivor Series.

We also had Macho Man trying to get reinstated alongside having a rivalry with Jake The Snake after the whole wedding-crashing thing. Jake ended up taunting Macho into fighting him before he was reinstated to ruin his chances of making it back in. But then in the fight, Jake tied Randy up and forced a cobra to bite him, which resulted in him wobbling around the ring with 'poison running through his veins,' Elizabeth and Roddy Piper running out and trying to help him, Elizabeth having a panic attack, and kids in the audience crying and probably becoming traumatized from having to watch this. It sounds stupid as all hell, and it was, but somehow they made it SUPER INTENSE. I mean, I was snickering at it the whole time but it was just a different level of storytelling than we saw through the rest of 91.

After that, there was some like new "no reptiles at ringside" rule instated across the Federation which is also super stupid sounding (especially with how OFTEN they repeated it lol) but it's also the first time the organization itself was a part of the story, and just... idk, the stories were still really dumb kiddie programming stories but they were just... more. Like before, they just had some guys ad-lib trash talk for no reason at each other, but now there's like... actual plots and development and story events, as stupid as they are.

We also had this whole 'redemption arc' thing around the same time revolving around Sgt Slaughter wanting to be 'Americany!' again and traveling around the country and going to monuments and stuff and like... crying into flags and moaning out "I want my country baaaaack." The final 'episode' of this involved him going to an elementary school and saying The Pledge of Allegiance, afterward kissing a flag while children cheered for him and hugged him. It was the most ridiculous thing ever and I was cracking up.

The matches at Survivor Series weren't just fights with winners and losers, either. Slaughter finalized his face turn by bringing a flag into the ring and siding with Hacksaw Jim Duggan. IRS accidentally attacked one of his teammates with a briefcase, causing them to quit the match and leave him against the Legion of Doom on his own. He tried to forfeit, as well, but Boss Man forced him back into the ring to get his punishment. Hulk Hogan almost retained the Heavyweight title, but Ric Flair slipped in and helped Undertaker Tombstone Hogan into a metal chair, giving him the win instead. And in the tag team tag team thing, Shawn Micheals and Marty Janetty got into an argument with each other and broke up their tag team unit The Rockers, which also led to an easy victory for The Nasty Boys and The Beverly Brothers.

And since I've only been talking about "story" stuff, I didn't mention that this year also saw the debut of The Beverly Brothers who I quickly became attached to.

They're a tag team that consist of two brothers -- one with a hot nose and the other with a mustache -- who express their brotherly love similarly to Amara and Michelle expressing their cousinly love. They wear purple tights with with little shooting stars on them, and they come into the ring with these purple superhero capes that have like these weird foam purple spaulders on them.

They're a heel team but instead of just being "grr we're mean and cheat!" they're egotistical, always concerned with their own appearance, and act friendly despite their dirty tactics.

Their in-ring style is a lot of fun to watch and they do a lot of fun tag-team stuff. They also do a hilarious victory thing with one of them posing while the other gets the pinfall.

They also have a manager (and I love love love managers lmao) called The Genius who is this doofy cute beard guy who makes stupid poems. Before him they had The Coach for a while who was super obnoxious but fun as well.

Anyway, I still have to watch the last episode of Superstars for November and then all of the December content and I'll be done with all of 1991. At least as much as I'm able to see -- some random episodes were impossible to find and I of course didn't see much of any of PTW.

But yeah, when I started I was just wanting to see what IRS was like and was going to like, maybe watch a couple episodes or something. But now I'm attached to like all these other characters and I feel like I'm probably going to eventually try to watch all of the main shows' episodes up until like... today. It doesn't help that I'm attached to a bunch of modern characters and getting to know a bunch of characters from the in-between times from playing wrestling games and seeing various flashbacks/specials/whatever in programming.

But yeah, after this next month of programming I might make like a 'hotness ranking' of 91 wrestlers lmao since my reaction to literally anything is to rank its sex appeal.

OK so I've been wanting to talk about this for a while now lolol

Sunday was No Mercy which I'd been really looking forward to, especially because of the Cruiserweight title match. Which was like one of the last things so I'll get to that last. I just kinda wanna go over all the results and some thoughts on them. Most of them will be short.

Kickoff Match - The best thing about this match was Titus O'Neil because he's very handsome and was in a suit lolol. I actually like Elias though. I didn't really care who won but was kinda hoping Elias would since he seems less popular or whatever lol. And he did. But I would have been fine with Crews winning just as well. Especially because Titus lmao.

Intercontinental Title - I can't stand Jason Jordan and even though The Miz is kind of annoying, he's annoying in a fun way, and I like him. Plus I didn't want Miz to lose his title, so I was rooting for him. And he won, so yay.

Man vs Man - While this is probably the opposite of what you would expect, I'm just not a fan of these dirty beard redneck characters like Bray Wyatt. Plus his whole gimmick legit creeps me out. So I do at least appreciate him for that. But he's not gonna be one of the guys I'm cheering for in most matches. But even that aside, I've grown really attached to Finn Balor and was really hoping he would 'prove' himself as normal-guy-Balor and not Demon Balor. And he did so I was really happy about that~~ Especially because it was one of those cool comeback/adrenaline wins, too.

Raw Tag Team Title - The Tag Title is the best part of Raw tbh. And this was a great match because it was two of my fav teams against each other. Honestly, The Bar totally deserve the title, but I also wanted to see The Shield Minus One defend the title... I really like all four of these guys so I was going to be happy whoever won.

But uh the main highlight of this match was Cesaro. he legit had his teeth knocked in when he faceplanted against a metal beam. They were shoved 4mm into his gums. And he was like... bleeding all over the place. But he just kept right on going. And when he tagged out he got a little help from the sideline medics and then went right back into the match, bloodying up the ring and everything. Tons of respect for this guy. Hopefully his dental surgeries go well. I already admired Cesaro a lot but his dedication to the match and ability to fight through something pretty horrific like that sent him skyrocketing up my favs list. I even swapped him into my TapMania team even though he's only a 1-star XD

Raw Women's Title - I was excited about this match before they turned it into a Fatal 4-Way, and then even more annoyed when it became a 5-way (even though I love Bayley and was really happy to see her back). I just said Tags are the best part of Raw but the Women's division is just as great as the Tags. I was either hoping for Nia Jax to take the title or for Alexa Bliss to retain it.

Nia is the biggest threat so everyone kinda worked together to beat her up. I guess it would have been a boring match just Nia VS Alexa. Because the winner of that is obvious before it even begins hahaha. Nia really deserves to get the title and I hope she does get it eventually. But Alexa ended up defending, and she actually put up a great fight, when leading up to the match she seemed scared of her opponents. She definitely earned the title so it was cool.

Roman Reigns VS John Cena - The direction of the narrative already determined the outcome of this match... so I think everyone kinda knew Roman Reigns was going to win. I actually love Roman Reigns and don't understand why everyone hates him, so I was happy to see the 'taking of the torch' and glad he and Cena talked respect after the match.

SO UP UNTIL THIS POINT EVERY SINGLE MATCH HAD GONE MY WAY :D So of course, I was feeling pretty excited about the next match, since it seemed like I was getting everything I hoped for out of No Mercy...

Cruiserweight Title - The Cruiserweight division is my favorite part of the entire WWE and 205Live is my favorite show. When I first started getting into all this recently, Enzo Amore quickly became my favorite wrestler. But I had mixed feelings about him joining the Cruiserweights because, well, he just doesn't... fit. The CWD is all about technical wrestling and everyone in it is amazing and skilled. But Enzo is a crappy wrestler (which is why I love him) who gets by pretty much on pure attitude and a bit of bending the rules. Which is not very 205-y.

Though watching 205Live I really started to hold Neville in high regard as King of the Cruiserweights. So when Enzo was introduced to 205Live and just kept winning match after the match with his stupid tactics, I was starting to get pretty annoyed. The Cruiserweights work really hard and don't get enough attention, and Enzo was brought to the division pretty much solely to increase its popularity and get more viewers since he's ridiculously popular. Which is cool -- I'd love to see 205Live get more credit and viewership and the CWD become big stars. But it completely disgraced the whole division by turning it into a display of technical prowess to... the Enzo show.

But at the same time, even before joining 205Live (since his breakup with Big Cass) I was really hoping for some kind of character development from Enzo -- and when he joined the Cruiserweights, what I was hoping for, and even expecting, was that he would get his ass handed to him by the most skilled division in the WWE and gain a little humility. I don't want his personality or gimmick to change -- I just want to see him grow as a wrestler. When he first joined, he was even buddying up with Cedric Alexander (IMO the most skilled wrestler in the whole WWE) and Gran Metalik (another amazing wrestler and I have a soft spot for luchadores anyway) and so I was hoping that maybe he'd end up getting smashed by Neville, humble up a bit, keep his character, and start training with the best Cruiserweights to become an amazing wrestler himself.

So even after the annoying victories being the spotlight of 205Live for the past month, I was really looking forward to this match. This was going to be the big turning point -- Enzo was about to get crushed by Neville.

And indeed that's what happened. At the beginning. Enzo couldn't hold his own against Neville for a second, and was knocked silly. Neville was super pissed about Enzo coming in and ruining his division that he spent a lot of extra time just beating the shit out of him instead of winning the match quickly.

And so Enzo used that to his advantage. Outside of the ring, he took the Championship belt and started messing with it, and the ref made him give it back when he got back in the ring. While the ref was handing the belt back to the timekeeping officials, Enzo kicked the unsuspecting Neville in the crotch while the ref couldn't see, then immediately pinned him before he could recover himself, winning the match.

I was furious lmfao. There are so many amazing and underappreciated wrestlers in the Cruiserweight division and they all deserve to hold a title, and so many of them have been deserving of this for way too long. But here comes Enzo, scumming his way to the top without a single loss, because he's popular. Mad mad mad mad mad.

Then on Raw, Enzo had a victory party for himself, and the entire Cruiserweight division came out onto the floor and stared him down. Then Neville came out and confronted Enzo in the ring. Enzo had a clause that said if anyone attacked him during the celebration, they forfeited their rights to a championship opportunity. And despite the Cruiserweight division being so important to Neville, he kicked the crap out of him again.

After Raw went off-air, the entire division took turns beating him up, which resulted in no one being eligible for the title, but it certainly was satisfying to see all the cruiserweights standing up for the division. The off-air part we didn't get to see until it was shown on 205Live last night.

But yeah, I'm really anxious to see what happens next. I guess the entire point of this entire Enzo plotline is to get more people interested in 205Live and the Cruiserweights. And it's definitely the best story arc going on in the WWE now by far. But I really want redemption for the division. And I want Neville to take his throne back.

I don't know what will happen next. Ariya Daivari is trying to make amends with Enzo, and used Enzo's rivalry with Nevile to help with that. But Enzo's friendship could easily be dubious. And everyone else is still against Enzo.

So I guess there's a little suspect that Daivari is trying to get a title match by having Enzo request it (as I think the clause just doesn't let the others request/earn one on their own?) whether it's for himself or someone else.

There's also the possibility of someone rising up from NXT to join the division, who won't be part of the banned group. I think the current division roster needs more spotlight on their own. I haven't even been keeping up with NXT so I don't even know if there are any good candidates for this right now.

And then, of course, since every last member of the roster is involved in the stupid clause, there's a chance Kurt Angle could just redact the whole thing. Probably would make Enzo mad but I don't even care at this point.

Enzo seems to have completely turned heel, talking back to the Universe and even ending 205 Live last night by sneaking up on Neville and brutally beating him down with a crutch. And I love tons of heels, but Enzo's heel plot is progressing at the expensive of my precious Cruiserweights and it's really making it hard to stomach Enzo right now.

I still love Enzo and really want to see him eventually turn around in character and focus on being a more technical wrestler. I just didn't want to have to go through all of THIS to get to that point. And now I'm worried we may never get to that point at all...

And since I mentioned TapMania earlier, I even took Enzo off my team (replaced by Shinsuke Nakamura, who I just got through the recent Smackdown event -- the timing was too perfect, as if the game was telling me to ditch Enzo hahahaha)

I will be watching everything that unfolds with Enzo from here on out, but I'm rooting for everyone in the division except for him.

Oh, and another little rant: Gentyjack and Cedric Alexander are fighting next week and even though I love love love Jack and am excited to see how his new relationship with TBK unfolds (btw I ship them now lolol), I'm hoping Cedric wins this match. For weeks now, Cedric has been used as a punching bag plot device to progress the story of popular white wrestlers and it's not cool. He deserves to be one of the most celebrated names in the WWE, but he's being reduced to THAT. It's gross.

And don't even get me started on problematic rasslin crap because I don't even want to go into the whole Maharaja/Nakamura thing which I have MANY words about. I've typed enough as it is, though.

Anyawy, here's some random lighthearted thoughts from this week in WWE:

  • Drew Gulak is so cute? And he wears suits all the time now. I'm loving this new gimmick and loving Drew now.

  • Tony Nese has grown on me a lot. And, uh, hot DAMN did he look good with his hair down last night. 9 reasons to love him.

  • And speaking of those two, I totally ship them now, especially after Drew fawning over Tony through his whole fight hehehe.

  • But I still am glad Tozawa won. He is so much fun. He deserves a lot more.

  • I haven't even watched Smackdown this week because I'm just so sick of Kevin Owens

  • TJP is so fucking annoying and I hate that he has a chiptune theme because he doesn't deserve it and I want to see Rich Swann pound him into the ground 400 times. No, 500.

  • I only just now realized how much stuff you miss watching the abridged versions of the shows on Hulu...

  • I started watching old episodes of Raw from 1993 and it's really messed up. Also somehow Ric Flair is hot...?????????????

  • Also, I'm drawing a Neville fanart :)

ok the end. I have other things to do LOL
