Another banned episode :D Well, I think this one was just taken out of the rotation in the US because it shows buildings getting destroyed, and they thought it might be insensitive after the events of 9/11. Then it was taken out of the rotation again because of the tsunami flooding the city, being too sensitive for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

A shame the episode got cut a few times, because it's quite good!

The episode starts with the crew having to wait at least 3 hours for a boat, and hoo boy do they find a way to kill some time! The group encounters a wild injured Tattu who draws a picture of Menokurage and Dokukurage in the water with its ink. Shortly after, a boat explodes on the ocean and the ggg rescues the people thrown overboard.

The gang finds out by meeting another Obaba (this time the cousin of the one in Aopulco) who is also a tycoon, that the Menokurage have been messing with the city and especially her plans to build a resort hotel out on the water. (We're also shown yet again some more non-Pokemon fish.)

She offers a luxury feast and 1,000,000 yen to anyone who can stop the Menokurage. Satoshi and Takeshi are ready to jump on the offer, but Kasumi is instead angry, because she feels sorry for the Menokurage who she thinks are super cute.

And I completely agree with her! Satoshi and Takeshi are weirded out, but Menokurage is indeed SUPER cute. It's one of my favorite gen 1 Pokemon, and I think it's a shame that you encounter it so late in the game and it's seen as the 'Zubat of the ocean' because it's really a great Pokemon to add to your team!

Anyway, while caring for the injured Tattu, Obaba comes over the city's loudspeakers to announce her reward for those wanting to stop the Menokurage, and hoardes of people come stampeding to the shore to fight with bazookas, and Obaba behind them with a tank.

Amidst the hubbub, Rocket Co. appears and Tuxedo Masks a rose onto the tank to introduce themselves, claiming they can get rid of the Menokurage and get the reward themselves. They have a plan to dump a special poison into the water that will take care of the Menokurage, then they'll sweep them up and sell them. Obaba lets them go through with their plan, but when the Menokurage attack (they can like, shoot lasers out of the jewel on their head lol) they drop the poison barrel into the ocean, which lands on top of one of the Menokurage. Instead of harming it, it makes it evolve into Dokukurage!

Dokukurageeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Not only is it one of my all-time favorite Pokemon, it's damned sexy too. Don't you just love it? It's so cool, too. I even caught a shiny one in Pokemon Sun! And you can bet your bottom Pokemon Dollar that I trained that nice lady to be competitive :) Though now I can't remember what I nicknamed her D:

Yay yay Dokukurage. *heart eyes*

I've already forgotten where in the story we were.

...

...

Oh yeah it just evolved.

So it starts rampaging, and the Menokurage invade the city and start destroying it. There's a LOT of violence and destruction scenes, so I can kinda see why they considered it a bit sensitive content in the wake of those events. But today, I had a lot of fun watching the jellies wreak havoc on the town and blow stuff up.

The ggg ends up trying to fight them off, but after they're beaten back, Dokukurage takes hold of Nyarth, and a Menokurage attaches to his head and mind-controls him to speak for them (because, you know, they can do that, apparently...)

We learn that they want to make humans suffer their wrath by destroying their homes because the humans first destroyed the Menokurage's homes to build a hotel on top of it. Pikachu tries to reason with Dokukurage, and we get a little scene of the two talking to each other with no help from Nyarth.

But it's not until Kasumi calls out from atop a building that Dokukurage starts to understand -- she convinces it that the humans have already suffered enough and understand the Pokemon's wrath, and begs it to go back to sea. Obaba comes out and tries to attack again, but Dokukurage whacks her away and returns to the ocean not to bother the humans anymore.

At the end of the episode, Kasumi reveals that while she still thinks Menokurage is super cute, her favorite little cutie is her new Pokemon, Tattu. And so finally Kasumi gets a new Pokemon; the last of the group to catch a new one. (I don't think I ever mentioned it, but Takeshi caught Zubat in the Pippi episode).

Overall a very good episode IMO. And not just because I want to be tentacled by a couple Dokukurage >_>; But it shows another side of the Pokemon world, where there is dissonance between humans and Pokemon, and they're not just constantly getting along. Humans destroy the Pokemon's homes, and the Pokemon fight back. Very interesting. The episode is suspenseful and exciting, and Kasumi is one of the stars. Very cool overall!

At first you mentioned this was banned, but I saw the lady in the first shot and was like “I saw this episode though!” but it makes sense if it left rotation post 9/11. The country did a lot of weird things in response.

Why are all the old women in this series evil capitalists? LOL That’s some sexism.

NGL, I tend to think of Tenecool as Ocean!Zubat too lol. Sorry!!

hey have a plan to dump a special poison into the water that will take care of the Menokurage

Where the hell did they even get that?!

Dokukurage/Tentacruel looks badass. It’s glare is so intimidating. This episode really made them feel kinda kaiju-ish. Like… maybe a bunch of tiny children shouldn’t be able to call one at will or anything, is all I’m saying.

We learn that they want to make humans suffer their wrath by destroying their homes because the humans first destroyed the Menokurage's homes to build a hotel on top of it

1.) This is such a 90s message
2.) More people need to see this

Kasumi should’ve gotten a Tentacool! That would’ve been… cool. (sunglasses) (YEAAHHHHHHH) Glad Kasumi got to be the hero in this story.
