[23] GET in Pokemon Tower!

This episode starts off with the gang trying to find their way through a spooky forest on the way to Shion Town. Satoshi decides to scare the others with a skull mask, which works successfully, though an annoyed Pikachu shocks him.
BTW, the 'catchphrase' for the show/catching Pokemon is "Pokemon GET!" (the GET is in English), hence the "weird" title.
The group arrives at Pokemon Tower, a place in Shion Town said to house ghost-type Pokemon. The Rockets seem to be waiting for them in the tower, but they suffer a lot of mishaps, falling through the floor and getting pranked by a Ghos multiple times.

The ggg argues about who is going to enter the tower -- Satoshi of course is going, but Takeshi and Kasumi (and even Pikachu) are too scared. He eventually convinces them all to go, though. In the dark tower, Hitokage tries to light a candle that Takeshi found, but ends up burning Takeshi's face in the process. Pikachu laughs at this. Man, Pikachu, you really are kind of a meanie!

We get a cut to the ghost Pokemon of the tower watching slapstick comedy on TV and joking and playing around. Seems they like to laugh.
The gang enters a dining room where a large table is set and a party ball with a rope says "Pull!" and Satoshi just... does, because why not? And it pops open saying "Welcome!" And the room lights up. But then all the dishes and chairs start flying around, and eventually the gang escapes the room, terrified. The ghost Pokemon seem to be having a blast, though, laughing and laughing.
They run all the way out of the tower this time, and again Kasumi and Takeshi refuse to re-enter. Hitokage and Pikachu refuse at first, too, but Satoshi gives them a little pep talk and they enter together, leaving Kasumi and Takeshi behind.
Back inside, Satoshi finds a hole in the floor where the Rockets fell through. I didn't get any good caps of it, but he hears voices and commands his Pokemon to attack in the hole, throwing a Monster Ball and hitting Musashi in the face. Hitokage sets her hair on fire, and Satoshi thinks it's some kind of ghost fireball.

The interest in the hole in the ground is cut short when ghost Pokemon Ghost appears and spooks Satoshi. Yes, its name is Ghost.
Satoshi tries to fight it with Hitokage. They have a stare-down match, and then Hitokage makes a silly face and Ghost laughs, then licks Hitokage which renders him paralyzed. Satoshi recalls Hitokage and Gangar appears, slapping Satoshi with a paper fan. The ghosts try to make Satoshi laugh, but he tells them they're not funny, and they get depressed.

I don't remember exactly why it falls, but a chandelier falls on Satoshi and Pikachu, effectively killing them??? I mean, the ghost Pokemon see them unconscious and take their spirits out of their bodies. The ghosts take Satoshi's spirits to see some sights and play around, where he pranks Kasumi and Takeshi and has fun flying around with the ghosts. They take him to a playground they made inside the tower, where Satoshi learns that they just want to make buddies to play with and have fun.
Satoshi explains to them that he's not ready to die yet. The ghosts cry, but take his spirit back to his body, which Kasumi and Takeshi have come in to find after the prank worried them that something bad had happened.

Satoshi decides to give up on capturing the ghost Pokemon and decides he'll win the battle with Natsume with the power of laughter (foreshadowing?!), but then Ghost appears and decides to befriend Satoshi. They make silly faces together and laugh as the episode draws to a close. Not before showing that Gangar and Ghos have tied up the Rockets to their merry-go-round and are watching them cry while they laugh at them.
There's a little joke at the end -- every time Satoshi would check his zukan about the ghost Pokemon, it would say "All is a mystery." And then when the narrator questions whether Satoshi will be able to overcome Natsume's challenge, he responds, "All is a mystery." I thought that was cute.
There was some other pun or something someone said that I wanted to mention, but I can't remember XD I think it might have been when Musashi got 'fired up' and wanted to fight back against Satoshi, Kojiro was like "Musashi's on fire!" and then Nyarth was like "No, she's literally on fire..." and showed that her hair had caught aflame by Hitokage's attack.
But I feel like there was another thing too XD Oh well. I just screencap the episode as I watch it and use that to 'remember' what happened when I write these, but I'm not going to watch the whole thing again to see IF there was something I wanted to mention XD
Anyway, this was a pretty fun episode. Satoshi almost dies yet again, and we get to see Pokemon having fun and playing around. I really like how they put so much effort into showing the personality of the Pokemon world and not just focusing on catching and battling. I guess if Satoshi just outright caught all his Pokemon in basic battles, it would get kind of stale quickly. Having them follow and befriend him for unique reasons is much more interesting.

Date: 2024-02-14 03:39 pm (UTC)Gengar are uncomfortably big.
Satoshi’s one-brain cell would have him press a red self-destruct button just because it was red. He’s like DeeDee from Dexter’s Lab.
I’ll always remember how ballsy it was for a kid’s show to murder the protagonist and cute mascot. RIP guys.
Not before showing that Gangar and Ghos have tied up the Rockets to their merry-go-round and are watching them cry while they laugh at them.
I remember this. It always reminded me of a scene in Hocus Pocus where the bully characters are suspended in cages as the Sanderson Sisters spin them around and jeer at them from below.
